Lere Community
Lere Community is a rural community located in the outskirts of Southern Kaduna. It is under the jurisdiction of Lere Local Government Area, Kaduna and has an estimate of 12,000 residents and 7000 households. Lere Local Government Area shares boundaries with Kauru Local Government Area to the west and south, Kubau Local Government Area to the northwest, Kano State to the north, Bauchi State to the east and Plateau State to southeast, respectively.
The Lere Community, with predominantly farming occupants, has suffered greatly from the security challenges in the region and state. This has led to the loss of lives and properties of residents in the state. In the midst of these challenges, healthcare centres in the community, which are one of the few lifelines, are barely functional. As an organization, we fundamentally believe Nigerians and therefore members of this community should have access to basic and quality healthcare. Most women and children in Lere suffer from treatable diseases. The few community healthcare workers in Lere that manage the facilities, do so with little resources and space.
Needs of the Community
Through a series of community meetings in Lere, we believe enhancing healthcare infrastructure will improve the general public health of the community and provide much needed care and hope. The centre should serve as a space for families to get care, but for the last few years a lack of infrastructure, maintenance, and a basic sustainability model has quite literally taken away a critical life line.
Transforming people’s lives requires basic availability of healthy spaces that provide both preventive and urgent health care.
